Wimpole Clinic - Dr May?

Has anyone had experience of the Wimpole Clinic 22 Harley Street and specifically Dr May?

The clinic has been established since 1975, with Dr May claiming over 10,000 HT’s and so I’m a little unnerved that there are only a few mentions on this forum…

I had a positive consultation with them recently which included a new adviser they were apparently training up who had recently had a FUE HT with Dr May. Happy to answer questions, showed a long list of his HT pictures on his laptop and “in person” result looked good. My pictures were taken and sent off to Dr May to confirm suitability and their estimate on number of grafts (he was not there in person, but as this was an initial consultation this was ok to me). There was no hard sell.

What concerns me is that Dr May is not a member of the British ASSOCIATION of Hair Restoration Surgeons rather is listed as “Former president and former founder member of British SOCIETY of Hair Restoration Surgeons” – which does not come up in Google.

He is also listed as “ISHRS – Founder member of International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons” – but does not turn up in their Dr search.

If the organisation was initially named the above and then changed.…Any old redundant site that is not renewed will vanish from the search

He is also listed as “ISHRS – Founder member of International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons” – but does not turn up in their Dr search.

Contact them and ask if he was a founder.

- Pic attached 1600-1800 transplants for £5.7K (from my little finger backwards its nice and thick - always had a high hair line, and will keep it high. Been on Propecia and Minodil for >10years)

My main reason for posting is to look for advice on a Dr not being a member of these professional bodies, and wherther anyone has been to the Wimpole clinic and/or had a FUE HT from Dr May?

Out of curiosity, what concerns you about this? I am not making any judgement if a member or not. These associations are optional and no proof of quality, or legality to perform a hair transplant. You could also just ask the clinic, they should be able to shed light on it.

I think it’sodd that dr May is listed as a founder of the BAHRS but turn left the membership. I believe it’s because the BAHRS’ key point is that they are ‘the society where DOCTORS, not assistants, perform the surgery’.

dr May has an assistant who performs all his fue extractions called bilijana so he’s not a member anymore.

The point of having an assistant do the surgery is so they can do more than one patient at the same time. Don’t think I’ll put myself in that position for so much money thank you very much.

Careful that place lets assistants do the fue Surgery I’ve read it on here from different ex patients
But I’ve read up on this and looks like they were a different company and then sold to someone else but kept the name so the company name is the same but different company think dr michael may has been there the whole time though but not 100% on it

I got quoted 9k for 1000 grafts in my crown by Dr Mttal, by Russ (I think that's his name, a very friendly chap), his rep. I've had previous surgeries, but thought £9 a graft was a little excessive...

How many surgeries have you had in the past?

I decided to have another in person consultation with him as my hair has gotten worse. I started on his protocol of average dosing 0.7-0.9mg daily basis as my hair has gotten worse and was very releuctant. As per Dr Mani I am not a suitable candidate atm. Which is fair enough. I had a consultation at the wimpole clinic and they offered a hair transplant and said I wouldn’t need any medication. It’s a minefield out here. Can I she a ht without meds if I have ongoing hair loss. I spoke with the doctor there but they popped in for 2 mins and walked back out.

Dr Mani prices are good at an average of £3.50 per graft. I think the price is a lot higher if you’ve had surgery else where’s.

The other thing he does that others don’t is one a day with a focus on doing extractions incisions and where requested implantation himself but he said if he was implanting too that would be at an extra cost but didn’t see any added benefit.

Who knows this industry has so many conflicting issues and sales advisors saying you’re all good with little comminictiaio. With doc and another doc saying don’t have it done wait for the hair to stabilise. What to do?

I’ve had 4 surgeries, totalling just over 9000 grafts, and am having a 5 surgery in 2 weeks to add a bit more density to my crown at Seneca. They use implanter pens so the doctors are the only person who touches your head and the technicians load the implanter pens.

Good luck mate! But that’s probably why he charged you, that figure. Techs at senenca I believe will do it all. No way a doc can do dhi on several ptients in a day. Not will the doc extraxvt. Look forward to hearing your experience after the fact!

No, that’s incorrect. The doctor does everything @Seneca Medical Group - that is why I have chosen them. The technicians will not touch my head. All the extractions and the implants are performed by the doctor. Each doctor performs one operation per day. There are a few doctors that do it this way.
