The beard transplant is not so easy to perform. Here is a beautiful example

This patient came on March 2013 for his intervention.

Usually, the choice of the grafts is reduced to hair.

When the hair is thick enough, the result is often very good.

But some factors have to be respected : the adequate number of grafts and hair, and the cut of the beard has to be quite short so the structure of the hair, different from the hair will not be visible.

The patient received 3356 grafts.

Recently, he came back for a new surgery of 600 grafts.

Pictures show the result of the first intervention.

I agree this is very nice work indeed....was there a specific reason this guy had very little beard hair in the first place?

Thank you Bullitnut. The patient just has a sparse beard due to his genetics.

Hi Dr. Devroye, I am interested in this procedure and just have an enquiry about one of your comments you mention : "and the cut of the beard has to be quite short so the structure of the hair, different from the hair will not be visible." What do you mean by this comment ? Can I inquire further with you in private about this procedure ? Thank you.

Hello Alf.

It means that as the hair keep a hair structure, it often imitates the structure of the beard until a certain length. But sometimes it seems fragile if we let it grow too much. The ideal length is probably between 3mm and 1 or 2 cm.

Sometimes, when the hair is thick we can let it grow more.

The beard looks great now.

I agree that the beard hair restoration is more difficult than the traditional hair restoration on the scalp. IMO, here of few reasons as to why: The anesthetic seems to hurt more on the face than the top and back of the head. The face tissue moves more freely also making it more difficult when planting the grafts. The position of the planting techs is awkward causing more fatique on the tech's body.

I can imagine this being a real problem Janna/Dr D....just touching the beard area makes the face move a lot....are there any tricks of the trade so to speak to help with this?
