Oral Minoxidil regimen

Just started 3 weeks ago on Oral Minoxidil 2.5mg per day.

Where do you buy your oral minoxidil? I'm considering giving it a go but I'm having a hard time trying to find the best place to buy it for someone who lives in the UK. Thanks.

Hi Salazar

I ordered my first 90 day batch (90 x 2.5mg from MANUAL).

It’s dispatched from within UK.

Thanks Coopman. How much does it cost for 3 months? I'm thinking of asking my GP if he'd be willing to prescribe it for me. Whether he does or not is another matter. If he does, I still need to ascertain how much the pharmacy will charge me for dispensing it. As I said, I'm considering taking it, but I'm still at the preplanning stage. How have you been getting on? That must be around 3 months you've been taking it.

£57 for 3 months supply.

No GP prescription required as done through their online consultation.

Been on it for 2.5 months nearly.

Since last post, improvements noted in and around temporal points. Approx 50 new hairs either side.

Hair is becoming easier to style but no noticeable improvement to crown. Front hairline feels fuller.

That's good to hear, especially since two and a half months is still very much early days. Hopefully the coming months will see further improvement. All the best.

Axell. Cant say where the best place to purchase oral minoxidil is in the UK. I purchased mine from Manual.

What I would say is that the choice of dosage per day is the most important. Nobody knows the long term side effects from this drug when taken in the oral form. I am getting some results with a dosage of 2.5mg per day. I also hear of people taking a dosage per day that is much higher and in my opinion that is a dosage i would not be comfortable taking.

3month update
Temporal peak area big improvements. Front hairline some small vellus hairs appearing but nothing substantial.
I am no longer shedding and hair has become straighter and slightly thicker. Only minor improvements to crown at this moment in time. Updated photo is pointless at moment as does not show any meaningful improvement yet.

Side effects as below.
Nasal hair is thicker and needs more plucking.
Beard hair has thickened. I shave every morning and in the last month I have noted there is more growth in the morning than usual.
Eyebrow hair. I keep finding long stray hairs that need plucking more often than usual.

Changed my mind about posting 3months pics.
Big difference is a few extra hairs in crown area above cow swirl that when brushed forward covers the thinning area better than 3mths ago.

Hi thanks I used oral minoxidil a few year's ago. But stopped after having a ht. But I seem to be losing to much again. So I need to get back on the oral minoxidil..I've just purchased from inhousepharmacy..thanks

Stopped using oral minoxidil 8 weeks ago. Apart from the temporal areas no worthwhile regrowth elsewhere.

Back on Finasteride for a few months and will continue with this.

I think because my hair loss is no worse than it was 20 years ago. The areas which are thin are now beyond rescue.

Confirmation that Minoxidil has not worked is because I have not shed any hairs.

Hi Axell,
I don't know where you are from. However, I live in the United States and I had my doctor prescribe it to me. My insurance didn't cover it; but they were able to submit it to a prescription discount card program.

Since mid Jan24. I have started using 5mg oral per day in addition to 1mg per day Finasteride.
I am contradicting myself as previously I stated I would not go beyond 2.5mg per day of Minoxidil.
I am noticing same results as when using 2.5mg per day but my existing hair is becoming thicker. There is more resistance when I comb my hair and my hair at the front, each hair is thicker in diameter than previously.
After 8 weeks I am getting better results than when I used 2.5mg per day. But this also could be due to now using 1mg of finasteride per day.
I will post some pics in a few weeks.

Thanks for sharing this update. There is a good chance it’s the combination of upping the dosage and the Fin together.
What’s important is you can see and feel your hair improving.
I’ll look forward to seeing the pictures.

Wow sounds like the combination is working for you might up my dose of oral minoxidil to 5mg if that gives better results.

I’ve never had a heart test but I do check my blood pressure and it has come down slightly with taking oral minoxidil

I would definately have regular heart check ups on oral minox.
