I am over 3 months post-op now and wanted to post about my hair transplant journey as I know there will be many other women out there who, like me, dislike their naturally high hairline/ big forehead and want information on how a hair transplant can help them resolve this issue.
I am in my mid twenties now but I had been unhappy with my hairline for several years as it made my face look disproportionate and less attractive when I wore my hair without a fringe. I became more and more self-conscious about my hairline and finally decided to do something about it.
When I initially started searching online for information about hairline lowering the first results I got were for Dr. Kabaker but I didn't consider this option in detail as he was based in LA. After a bit more searching I came across the Fargo clinic which was based in the UK. I did some research and found that they were well established and had done transplants on some well-known public figures and decided to contact them.
Unfortunately my experience of the Fargo clinic was pretty poor. I had to chase them several times via email as they didn't call when they said they would and didn't email me the information I requested about what blood tests I would need. Furthermore, they weren't very helpful. When I asked whether it was possible to perform a hair transplant on a woman with a naturally high hairline, they told me "yes" and that I could find information on the internet. I eventually sent them an email expressing my disappointment with their service given I was looking to spend a lot of money with them. My comments were ignored and I eventually decided not to go with them as the whole experience just seemed too difficult.
A few months later I did some more research and came across the BHR clinic, which appeared to be regarded as a top hair transplant clinic and as it was based in Belgium I decided to contact them. My experience with BHR from the outset was very positive. Stephen was exceptionally helpful and always answered my queries very quickly! I met Dr. Bisanga at a consultation in London and didn't even realise he was the surgeon as he was so down to earth and approachable. For me, the excellent level of service that Stephen and Dr.Bisanga provided, gave me confidence and reassurance to undergo a hair transplant with BHR.
At every point in the process Stephen has been there to answer my queries, provide me with information and regularly contacted me since my operation to check my progress. I really couldn't have asked for a better service/level of care.
Although the surgery itself was pretty awful (not something I had really thought about beforehand, which was probably a good thing), the nurses were really helpful and friendly throughout and made me feel really comfortable which was nice given I was on my own and in a different country.
Finally, here I am now 3 months-post surgery and very excited to see my new hair growing
.... the hair feels like it is growing quite quickly and already looks quite thick at the temples but not as thick at the top yet. I will be very happy in another 6 months or so when I can finally style the new hair and no longer have to wear a fringe!
A couple of tips I would give to someone undergoing surgery in the future are:
1. Make sure you go for a haircut before your transplant. I didn't realise how awkward it would be to hide the grafts until they look more normal and it would have been better if I had had my fringe chopped just before the surgery. I have avoided going to the hairdressers in case they look at me funny but are finally be going to the hairdressers tomorrow : )
2. I would practise drawing your ideal hairline (with eye liner), colouring it in and taking photos before the consultations and the surgery. This will give you a much better idea of what hairline will suit you. My new hairline was drawn slightly differently at every consultation and probably differed again on the day of surgery as I had no photo to compare it with. The new hairline certainly looks very natural and is a big improvement but I am slightly concerned it is not my ideal hairline (although Stephen has said I could get a touch-up if needed, which is reassuring for me).
As with most women, I don't feel comfortable putting my pre/post-op pictures up as I have kept my hair transplant private from friends and family. However, if you do look into getting a hair transplant with BHR for similar reasons to myself, I would consider allowing Stephen to share my photos with you.
