Hello,
I am a 39 yr old male living in London. I started receding in my early 20's which caused a fair to high degree of distress. At 28, I had a hair transplant with Crown Clinic. Dr Shahmalak placed 1100 grafts at my hairline via FUT. MY recessions at that age were quite limited, and the procedure restored my hairline very well, and I was thoroughly happy with the results.
Some years after this (having had no further recessions due to Propecia) I started a family and have now had two children. I took many years off medication during this period and my recessions have been quite extensive. This has led to a situation where my natural hairline has receded quite far behind my grafts, leaving gaps, and the lack of hair behind the grafts has led to them looking far less natural than they did when they had hair behind them. It is amazing how long you can manipulate haircuts and hair styling when you have some grafts at the front... but recently I reached the point where I had enough and decided in very short order to get a second procedure to sort this out.
I have seen three clinics so far; Wimpole (Dr May), Farjo (Dr Williams), and Westminster (Dr Rogers). All of them were great. I believe all three would be perfectly capable of producing a good result. However, Dr Greg Williams was engaged and involved during the consultation to a degree that was incomparable to the others. He performed numerous assessments and displayed integrity and honesty. His background as the head of a hospital burn unit in London also gives me much confidence, and there are many people and places praising this him online. Westminster and Wimpole suggested 1400-1500 grafts. Farjo have suggested 2000. I am proceeding with Farjo and have booked in for 2000 FUE in a few weeks. I will attend their Manchester clinic.
Dr Williams plan is to improve the existing transplanted hairline by placing 200 or so singles in front. The remaining 1800 will build up the gaps and thinning sections behind the transplanted hairline. Additionally, I have request some grafts at the temporal peaks as my hairline there is very straight, and I hope the addition of some some, single grafts here will serve to reduce the size appearance of my forehead a little. Dr Williams has agreed to this, though he was insistent that it must be subtle and gentle, otherwise this can lead to issues.
My transplant is booked for early April but I am on the cancelation list (which is very active due to Covid) so may well be in sooner. I will report honestly about all aspects of my experience and follow through all the way until one year post op.
The photos below were taken recently under fluorescent tube bulbs and I had moved my hair to expose the losses as much as possible (the opposite of what I do normally...)
