How many women exactly have a HT

Just curious here..i know womens hair loss is a really big thing for them and i totally get this, but i hardly ever see female HT results. With this in mind i'm curious as to how many women actually have them.

Whats the percentages of females from the top clinics?....is it really so uncommon? and if so why?

Hi, I had a hair transplant last Aug in London at the Ziering Clinic because my hair was starting to thin badly at the front and top. I decided to act before it got too bad, because i reasoned that it would be less obvious that way. My surgeon was Edward Ball.
It has been an amazing experience. My transplant has worked unbelievably well. My hair growth looks so natural that no-one could ever guess what I have done. And on Mr Ball's advice, I started using Regaine as soon as my scalp had started to heal- and that has meant that my ongoing hairloss has almost stopped completely. Even the scar at the back of my head is pretty much invisible and it takes me a few minutes to locate it- even when I know it is there!
So overall I have no regrets at all. Yes it cost me a bit of money, but I have got my self-confidence back. And FYI, I am buying my Regaine online which is much cheaper than the shops or clinics.
So... In answer to your question... I have no idea how many of us have them! But I don't really think that is relevant. Women *are* having them.... They are working.... And certainly in my case, it was worth every penny!

That's great that you are happy with your result. It would be nice if you could share a photo documentation of your result. You would be helping a lot of women who are searching for what can be achieved through hair restoration. It's also nice to hear Minox has worked well on you.

At Shapiro Medical, our case load of women patients are approx 10%. There are few reasons for the relatively low number of women patients. In my opinion, couple of main reason may be due to: 1) many women are unaware of the surgical procedure. 2) many women are not ideal candidates as they likely have diffused thinning even in the donor area. They don't have a safe zone like men. Not all women's hair loss is the same so #2 does not apply to all women. There are plenty of women who have thick donor and their hair loss is minimal or they were born with a high hairlines. These women would be better candidates.

Thanks Janna for your explanations...personally i think the first reason about women in general not being aware of procedures is a huge factor and it's a shame because many could be helped.

Hi there,

I had the procedure clinic in Toronto. I had been suffering with Traction Alopecia from wearing tight braids. 2166 grafts were transplanted in the temporal as well as frontal hairlines in the first sesion. A year later. i took the second session in which they transplanted 2240 grafts in the same region. Now am 9 months after making 4404 grafts in total. The pic is attached.

WOW this looks great, unfortunately traction alopecia seems to be a real problem in this day and age with styles like the tight braids being fashionable....it's good to know however that there are options and your photo shows a nice turn around thanks for posting.

Ladies undergoing hair transplants are much less than men. I would say 5% of the total in our practice. Not necessarily because of lack of knowledge but also due to difficult post op logistics.
Reasons -
1. The pattern of hairloss is usually diffuse and in the central part area instead of a well defined hairloss in, lets say the temples

2. The recipient area needs to be trimmed and its socially difficult for ladies to have a significant/total bald scalp for a couple of months.

The ideal lady patients are those that may need transplant because they have:
1. Traction alopecia
2. Burn/surgical scar
3. congenitally high forehead

We do perform HTs in ladies with diffuse thinning androgenic alopecia but in those cases we advise them to go for small sessions (covering less recipient area but such that they can cover with the surrounding hair till the transplanted hair have grown).

FYI, my hairloss was indeed diffuse at the top but I did not need to have any trimming or shaving of the area before my procedure. That may be because my hair is worn short and curly, but I certainly had no problems concealing the fact that I had had the procedure ... In fact I was out in public within a week!

I agree it would be cool , the main reason i believe women don't tend to make many of their own threads on hairloss specific forums like this one is because they tend to reside around cosmetic surgery froums with small hairloss sections.

HiJust had first consultation with Ziering. Have booked procedure but wanted to know if there was anything that concerned you about the whole process? I was happy with the consultation and paid a deposit to book procedure. Then a week later I was requested to pay the full amount up front, a month before the procedure, or I would lose my booked slot! I feel pressurised now as this had not been explained to me at the time of booking. Why do you need to do this? £1000 deposit should surely cover any up front costs? Am I being overly concerned? I haven't even had the blood tests yet to see if there is an underlying problem. I really need this procedure but this all feels a little worrying.

I would ask them why it has to be paid upfront, clinics usually require a deposit only to secure a surgery date. Which doctor are you booked in with? Mr Ball from Ziering posts regularly on here. Maybe start your own thread as you will get more response to your question.

The percentage of women undergoing hair transplants is 5%. The percentage is low because women can camouflage their hairloss problem with many ways. Usually women prefer to restore hair loss of their face and body.

I would say closer to 10% at our clinics overall, for some reason it seems to be higher in Brazil and the UAE then Europe. When it comes to eyebrow transplants women are probably closer to being 80% of all patients.

As for camouflage i totally understand your comments as i was watching a programe on UK tv the other night where a female patient went to see a GP with Hair loss..... the doctor just couldn't see her loss at all until she started to take her extensions and clips and bobbles out and everything just unraveled revealing a big bald patch.....very clever though how she styled her hair to hide the loss
