Are there any measures that I can follow to lessen the chances of poor healing? can anyone tell me what you did to ensure that this does not happen to you, and are you successful about it?

@Hairyscary

PRP and Acell during the surgery, and hydrocortisone cream, vitamin k, and good health habits should work well after the surgery.

I know this is an older topic but it needs to be said for the benefit of others; good health habits should be followed before surgery. If you are not eating and living healthy then it takes time for the body to reorient itself to take full advantage of the better nutrition it is taking in once you clean up your routine.
Avoid stress, eat lots of green vegetables, drink lots of water and exercise regularly. Do not smoke and avoid excess of any kind. This will help one be in optimal health thereby allowing for the strongest and fastest recovery from injury.

Great advice!, personally i don't smoke but i keep hearing posts over the years about how smoking can (not always) affect healing, why is this?

Hello Bullitnut,

My apologies, I did not see your question. Smoking is widely recognized as an inhibitor to wound healing but there haven't been any wide scale studies that I'm aware of.

Some of the ingredients have well known effects on the body during wound healing. For instance, nicotine is a vasoconstrictor meaning it reduces the amount of blood flow, thus the amount of nutrition, that any wound needs for repair. Oxygen transport is reduced by hydrogen cyanide and carbon monoxide. Proliferation of red blood cells and fibroblasts is also lessened. All of these and more are necessary for optimal wound healing and the longer it takes for a wound to heal the greater chance exists for a negative outcome. We wants the body to be back to normal as soon as possible so the process of recovery and growth can begin.

Smoking is not going to destroy a result but if a patient is a regular smoker and has a good hair transplant result there is a chance that the patient may have had a better esult if smoking were not included in the overall equation.

Cleaning up your diet may save you from the Mr. Clean look. Start by skipping fried foods; this may reduce oil-gland activity, slowing the switch from T to DHT, according to research from India. And watch the desserts: The insulin flood from consuming a lot of sugar can trigger the release of testosterone, making it available for conversion to DHT.
