Just posting some pictures and info of my experience Dr Manish Mittal. If TLDR - he was great and the results are too!
So, I have a nice head of hair, but it bugged me more each year that the two bits at each side on the front were going. It made me feel older than i was, it made me always aware there were gaps on my head. Annoyingly if i got my hair cut short it look really receded, but if I grew it longer, I could cover one side, but not the other.
Being a male with a practical 'this surely can be fixed', i likened it to a car that's fine, but the two wings at the front are rusty and looking crap. Obviously a new set of wings, a spray and it's back to new. I used the same mentally for my head. Maybe odd, but to me that's all it is really, just fixing something that has worn out.
I had planned to go abroad (like most people i've heard). However due to lockdown and potential conflicts in countries near turkey (iirc) i decided to pay the extra and just do it here. Called an ad online, the guy was nice and talked me through the process. I knew most from research, but good to go over and him telling to have some shirts for the first 2 weeks was a nice tip. Anyhow, he said he's got a great surgeon for me. I paid up, admittedly not entirely sure how things would go, and waited for the date. Due to a cancellation I was able to get in several weeks earlier.
8th March 2021 I drove to london and went to the venue. 2 nurses were there and Dr Manish arrived after a bit. Nurses were nice and he was chilled from the start. Decent people and no pompous stuff or BS going on.
He talked me through the day and was very clear. Then a nurse shaved my hair. And que 4-5 hours of lying on a bench having hairs taken. It was slightly more uncomfortable than I'd imagined, but this is surgery after all so there is always going to be some discomfort. Saying that after a while i got in the zone and it wasn't bad really.
He was nice and got us all pizza for lunch, and i think because my possibly my blood sugar was lower.
Then back in and on to the front now. The jabs either side were the transplant were to go, did hurt, but it lasts less than a minute. Then with a nurse eitherside they put the hair in the front.
Dr Manish oversaw their work and was he is very passionate about this area, and is clearly very knowledgeable in this sector and really knows his stuff. For example he explained they put 'singles' at the very front, 'doubles' in the middle and 'tripples' in the rear to give a natural look to how the hair will grow back. (at least that's what i interpreted he meant!). He also explained they go back further than needed, soto create an overlap. this means as original hair goes, the newer hair is there to insure against gaps forming mid head. (again at that's what i interpreted he meant!)
Afterwards he showed me the work done, talked me through aftercare.
He with messaged and asked for pics via whatsapp and offered further instructions about how to deal with the days after the procedure. He followed this up after monthly intervals for the first year.
Whilst the first several months are emotionally hard, more so than i ever thought, the hair did slowly start to come through after 3-4 months. Then it came through more.. and more.. and even more.. and then even more. The rate it grew back around the 6 month mark (september) was quite something and you wouldn't be able to tell by then I'd had any work done as the hair was well formed. Some work colleagues could not believe how quick i had a full head of hair. By Christmas (9 months) I was extremely happy with the results and basically i couldn't see how more hair could grow considering i had a bush now.
Since xmas till now (apr 22) i've noticed some of the wildness of hair has calmed a little. What i mean is some of hairs grow and then bend down, like they are a little unsure what to do. But this has calmed down, as I guess the hairs adjust and thicken. So now i am much more able to style it nicely.
So pleased with this process, and recommend Dr Manish Mittal and his nurses. It's safe to say i feel quite smug knowing i did this and that it worked, and it feels as good as i though it would having hair where it should be again. If i ever need any hair work done again, I would want him to do it - no question.
