Hey.
I'm 30, I started noticing thinning in the temples at 18 and hair loss slowly continued until 25.
At 25 I began using topical minoxidil.
Just before my 28th birthday I had my first hair transplant at Skin and Follicle in Birmingham with Dr Ali Soueid using the Artas Robot. I paid for 2,500 graphs.
The results weren't very good in my opinion. The hairline was unnatural, the hair grew in 'wispy' and was in general all too thin. The robot also left FUE scarring that I assume is considered worse than when extracted manually. The other main issue with the transplant was that he didn't go back far enough, which left gaps between the old hairline and the new one. He put some hairs into the crown also.
I explained how unhappy I was with the results and although the surgeon had moved abroad to start a new clinic in Qatar, he agreed to pay a different surgeon (Dr Camillo Diaz) to fix the initial transplant. This was done just after my 29th birthday. He thickened the area that had already been operated on but somehow managed to again not go back far enough so the areas of thinning behind the new hairline was still present. He said he would not operate on my crown and this should never have been operated on in the first place. I also found out at this time that only 1800 graphs had been used on the first transplant. I complained about this (as was charged for 2,500) and the initial surgeon then gave me £1,000 refund once I highlighted this. Although I wasn't very impressed as I only found this out by accident!
I complained again about the gaps behind the new hairline once again and again found myself back just before my 30th birthday to have these areas touched up (and he also put more hairs into the temple area).
6 months ago I switched from topical minoxidil to oral minoxidil and I also started finasteride.
What I'm unhappy about is the thinnest on the top behind the frontal area and especially the crown. I means I have to keep my hair very short. I would ideally like to thicken up the crown and the top to really get the result I want. I'm pretty unhappy with my hair as it is. Yes if I get a fresh cut and use hair fibres I can make it look fairly good but I don't really want to use hair fibres, I want the real deal.
Although I have had three transplants, the last two were fairly minor and I have definitely used only 4k max graphs so far from donor area.
I only want the best surgeons now going forward and have a consultation this week coming at the Maitland clinic (although they do not use beard hair to transplant and maybe this is an option I need?).
I'm not concerned with prices but I do want to know the best route forward for myself, any advice on surgery, surgeons or anything else would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
